On 21 November 2024, Iwan Tirta Private Collection, supported by BCA, proudly launched its latest masterpiece, Mahitala, at The St. Regis Jakarta. Meaning “great earth” in Sanskrit, Mahitala pays homage to Indonesia’s vast cultural and natural heritage. Through the timeless artistry of batik, the collection celebrates the soul of the archipelago with elegance and purpose.
Each design in Mahitala carries the essence of Indonesia’s biodiversity. Hand-drawn motifs depict the Cendrawasih bird, Sumatran tiger, and Black Orchid—symbols of grace, strength, and rarity. Inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, these motifs come alive through intricate craftsmanship. Every piece reflects the enduring legacy of Iwan Tirta, the visionary who transformed batik into an internationally admired art form.
Iwan Tirta Private Collection Blends Heritage and Modern Craftsmanship
The 50-look collection showcases the perfect blend of tradition and modern innovation. Using refined techniques such as micro isen detailing, Telau gradients, and layered sogan dyeing, each garment tells a story of skill and devotion. Meanwhile, luxurious fabrics like jacquard silk, satin, and Tencel linen enhance movement and texture. Flowing silhouettes, structured pleats, and contemporary menswear demonstrate how Iwan Tirta continues to redefine batik for today’s generation.
