“This is the first large-scale solo exhibition dedicated to the works of fashion designer Auguste Soesastro, celebrating the first 15 years of his career. His quiet manner of working has kept him under the radar with a cult following of extremely discreet clients. Soesastro is indisputably one of the most important fashion designers from the region, known for his no-fuss – architect’s precision – minimalist interpretations of Indonesian inspired designs.” said Sadiah Boonstra, Curator.

Auguste Soesastro presents his first large-scale solo fashion and art exhibition titled “ꦢꦪꦤꦶꦁꦧꦸꦢꦶ – a force of subtleness” at The Warehouse Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta. Fifteen years after successfully launching the KRATON brand at New York Fashion Week, Auguste explores new approaches to fashion while looking at the fusion of Javanese and Chinese heritage and European cultural influences in a 21st-century context, presented as a cross-media exhibition that blurs the lines between fashion, art and performance. Rooted in family history, personal journeys of identity struggle, migration and cultural assimilation, “ꦢꦪꦤꦶꦁꦧꦸꦢꦶ” (pronounced as “Dayaningbudi”) incarnates a silent battle to shake social conventions and tear down stereotypes of racial and class identity.

As a companion to the various fashion works presented in this exhibition, Auguste also introduced his authentic fashion presentation concept, anchored by unique visual artworks, to push himself beyond the boundaries of the fashion world and into the realm of his love for art.

ASA was involved from the planning stage, especially in discussing the cooperation with Plaza Indonesia as the primary sponsor and venue. We were appointed to develop the regular program for the month-long exhibition, show management during the opening event at Warehouse, Plaza Indonesia and media relations during the press conference held at Bistro Baron, Plaza Indonesia.
